Last day of the summer

Well that's it for the summer lavender followers, today is the last day the fields are open and we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone - to the many groups who came on the guided tours and had to listen to us talk, to the endless visitors that at times flooded the barn and calmly waited on their teas and coffees...(and even scissors when we were really full); those of you who followed us on this blog (even though our updates haven't been as frequent as we would have liked); photographers like Rachel Warne and Ian Wood who have taken breathtaking shots - and to all of you who uploaded your images of Hitchin Lavender to sites such as Flickr and Facebook; journalists Victoria Moore and Tim Wheeler who we really can't thank enough for such fantastic coverage, and lastly a very special thank you to the small band who worked relentlessly alongside us through the heat waves of June (remember them), the downpours of July and to the many bee stings of August, Cheers to Ron, Steve and Tony!
To anyone and everyone we haven't thanked - Thank You!

See you all again next year, at a farmer's market near you, here on the web and for a few weeks when we open the shop in December

Still in flower!

Yes, we’re still open! Our Grosso and Maillette varieties flower later than many garden varieties and there are still another couple of weeks left for to visit our lavender fields. For those of you who can’t make the journey you can still order Hitchin Lavender products from our products page. The reaction to the Daily Mail article has been fantastic and many thanks to all of you who have travelled to Hitchin for a day out.

We’d love to hear your comments about the fields and see your pictures so please drop us a line at info@hitchinlavender.com or click the comments button beneath this paragraph. Hope to see you in the next couple of weeks.

Lavender fields open to all!

Now really is the perfect time to come and see Hitchin's Lavender fields in full bloom!

Lots of you have been to see us already this year but time is running out - harvesting of the lavender is edging closer!
Last week Hitchin Lavender was mentioned in an article in the Daily Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/5767935/Lavender-resurgence-as-people-turn-to-natural-remedies.html we are hoping for lots more media attention as the fields become ever fuller

Open Day Success!

The village had a gardens open day on sunday and we at Hitchin Lavender were thrilled to be a part of it as well. Apart from the day being wondeful, visitors to the farm were also fortunate enough to see an amazing teepee which had been used for a stunning wedding the night before. It was situated at the base of the large field of lavender providing a beautiful backdrop and a highly original wedding venue!

Great day out!

Welcome Lavender lovers!

Sorry for the lapse in blog updates - Hitchin Lavender is just rushed off it's feet at the minute. Not to say that we wouldn't appreciate anymore folk who are looking for a great day out in Hertfordshire!  It's also an innovative idea for a Fathers day outing.

Hitchin Lavender tea shop is seeming to be just as popular as the lavender at present with people just as interested in sitting in our old barn and relaxing with a nice slice of coffee or carrot cake.

This is a photo taken only yesterday! As you can see some of the lavender is already out in full bloom and has begun to be harvested. A lot though shall be flowering within a few weeks so make sure you don't miss this piece of beautiful nature!

Open Open Open

Hitchin Lavender is now open! The shop/barn is now open for the season as Nick mentioned on his blog http://www.bigredtractor.com/. Neither of us have been very sharp at updating our personal blogs but if you do get a chance they're cracking reads...

It is now possible to purchase some of our products online, though there is a far bigger selection available from our shop. All products shall eventually be uploaded to the net for you to browse through and buy out of season, so no worries if you can't make it to come and see us.

In the next week or so we will also have available a Hitchin Lavender Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Oil, Bubble Bath and Lip Balm!

Hope to hear from you or see you soon!!!

Hertfordshire Life

This month (the June edition) we are on the front cover of Hertfordshire life.
The article inside highlights five reasons to vist Hitchin. Hitchin's boutique shopping, its places to eat, The Hitchin Festival, the town's theatre perfomances and also its tourist attractions. Aside from Hitchin Lavender other attractions include the British Schools Museum which offers a fascinating insight into the teaching of education in Britain over the past two centuries and Hitchin Museum and Arts gallery, a beautiful centre which offers varying exhibitions throughout the year.
So if you are new to the area and were wondering what Hitchin has to offer or were from further afield and were just thinking of paying us a visit - make it a long day and enjoy as much of Hitchin's attractions as you can!

What’s New for Summer '09

Hello and a very warm welcome to the official Hitchin Lavender news blog!
We aim to be updating this blog as often as possible with info on markets that we will be attending and new products that we will be producing. We would also be extremely happy to answer any questions you may have for us - whether it's on how to grow lavender or information about a specific variety or simply to ask for clearer directions on how to get to the farm, don't be shy to ask!

New in for '09 are the picnic tables and benches at the base of the Lavender field which means you will now be able to relax and enjoy the Lavender for even longer and can even bring a bite to eat with you.
We have many new and interesting products available in our shop this year including Lavender wheat bags and lip balm as well as over a dozen new varieties of Lavender plants to choose from!
There is also a new refreshed version of our Lavender Programme with new details about the wildlife that the lavender attracts.

HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
